Marlboro, especially Marlboro South Industrial area is an important source of employment to the greater Alexandra area. Several commercial and industrial plants and factories are concentrated here. The site is directly accessible to the greater Alexandra area via an integrated road network which links the two areas.

Gauteng's rapid-rail project and construction of Marlboro Tunel Portal will create more jobs during the construction phase of the Gautrain. The Gautrain Rapid Rail Link is expected to provide at least 380 jobs in the area on opening, and that number is expected to grow to 480 within another ten years. The Gauteng's Gautrail Construction is scheduled to commence in June 2006, with project completion scheduled for 2010, which coincides with South Africa's hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
